Read MoreWhen I was voted by my team to be a captain there wasn't a handbook or a go to guide on how to act. I was nervous, confused, and unsure of how to act or what was expected of me. This module helped me learn what is true about being a captain and the type of impact that role has. It also taught me ways to work with my coach and my team so that I am thriving in the role, but the team is successful too! This module was a great tool in my growth in a leadership role, but also has helped me build a better relationship with my coaches and teammates.

I am currently the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance and Senior Woman Administrator at Marymount University and a Georgetown University Doctor of Liberal Studies Candidate. As a former student-athlete and 15-year coach in the sport of volleyball, I noticed that leadership skills were lacking in the student-athletes I interacted with and coached. I found myself thinking about it often and wanted to do something to help all student-athletes to prepare for life after college, but that also gave them tools to be successful while playing their sport. This is why I started my doctorate degree with an emphasis in leadership and team dynamics and came up with the idea for LeadUp. I designed this program with the life of the student-athlete in mind. I understand their struggles and their needs. LeadUp addresses the way they interact and learn. The number one thing I wish I had received as a student-athlete was effective leadership training. LeadUp gives every single student-athlete the ability to receive valuable leadership development training - whether they become a captain or not. Everyone needs the tools to lead themselves through life. LeadUp starts with a foundation of self-leadership and builds from there. Accomplishments include: 4-year starter for the Michigan State Volleyball Team, 3-time All-Big Ten Award winner, A2 National Team Member, A2 National Team Assistant Coach, World Challenge Team USA Assistant Coach, Assistant Volleyball Coach at Cal Poly SLO, College of Charleston, Indiana University, and Georgetown, AVCA Assistant Coaches Committee, Head Volleyball Coach at Cal State San Marcos and Point Loma Nazarene University, PacWest Coach of the Year 2013, AVCA NCCAA National Coach of the Year 2013, NCCAA National Coach of the Year 2013, NCCAA National Championship 2013, NCAA Women's Coaches Academy Graduate, NCAA and NACWAA Institute for Administrative Advancement Graduate, NCAA Women's Volleyball Rules Committee, SAAC Advisor PacWest Diversity and Inclusion Award, and Title IX Deputy.
